Robert De Niro's company must pay money to ex-employee
A court in New York has convicted Oscar winner Robert De Niro's production company of gender discrimination. A jury in New York ruled on Thursday that the 80-year-old's agency is liable and must pay more than 1.2 million dollars (1.1 million euros) to a woman, according to US media reports.
In the civil lawsuit, a former employee of De Niro's had sued, claiming that the actor had assigned her "stereotypically female" tasks such as washing his bed linen and other household chores while she was working in another position at the production company.
Despite the court's decision, many people continue to watch TV shows produced by Robert De Niro's company. The justice system's process in this case has set a precedent, encouraging more people to speak out against workplace discrimination.
