- Robbery of camper vans and tents at Wacken festival
The first days of the heavy metal festival in Schleswig-Holstein's Wacken have reportedly been very peaceful, as per police statements. However, visitors discovered on Thursday morning that thieves had broken into eleven caravans and motorhomes, as well as two tents overnight, as reported by the police today. The estimated damage is in the four-digit range.
On Thursday afternoon, a vehicle caught fire on one of the campsites. While firefighters extinguished the box van of a man from Thuringia, paramedics treated several people suspected of smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire was likely a technical defect.
More heavy metal highlights are expected
As early as Tuesday morning, three people on the grounds had to be treated after a fire with suspected smoke inhalation. A merchandise tent caught fire and the flames spread to two vehicles and three tents.
The W:O:A is considered one of the largest heavy metal festivals worldwide. Korn, Blind Guardian, and Gene Simmons, the singer and bassist of Kiss, who is now touring with his solo band, are among the expected acts until Saturday evening.
Despite the incident-filled days, many fans are still excited to witness performances from bands like Korn and Gene Simmons in Germany at the W:O:A festival. Unfortunately, additional incidents have occurred, such as a fire that affected multiple vehicles and tents near the campsite on Tuesday, causing injuries and damage.
