Robbery in student hall of residence: five years in prison
Following a night-time robbery in a Frankfurt student hall of residence, a 24-year-old man has been sentenced to five years in prison by the Frankfurt Regional Court. An accomplice, who was still an adolescent at the time of the crime, received a three-year juvenile sentence in the same trial. The verdict is not yet final, the court said on Friday. (AZ 4290 Js 228887/22)
In January last year, the perpetrators crept into the victim's apartment during the night and rudely woke the man and his partner from their sleep. They stole two wallets with a total of around 600 euros in cash, bank cards and jewelry - in the end the man was also strangled and pushed to the floor.
Both defendants confessed in court. However, the defense argued that the case was less serious. However, due to the high level of brutality, the criminal division took the view that the legally prescribed minimum sentence of five years was appropriate for the main offender.
The court's ruling highlighted the severe nature of the robbery, as the main offender was sentenced to five years in prison for his involvement in the process. Despite the defendants' confessions, their legal team argued for a lesser sentence, citing less seriousness.
