Regional Court Lübeck - Robbery at bakery: stricter measures at trial
The trial for the robbery of a cash-in-transit at a large bakery in Lübeck continued on Friday at the Lübeck district court under increased security precautions. The four defendants were guarded by twelve court officers to prevent further confrontations between the men.
On one of the previous days of the trial, a 24-year-old defendant had been threatened with death by one of his co-defendants. The men are accused of aggravated robbery.
On this day of the trial, a 63-year-old detective who had analyzed the defendants' phone data reported difficulties in assigning the cell phones to individual persons. In some cases, a device had apparently been passed on to other people, the witness said. However, he had only collected the data. "I don't know what conclusions the investigators drew from this."
A total of seven witnesses were actually scheduled for the sixth day of the trial. However, three witnesses called in sick and a fourth refused to testify so as not to incriminate himself.
According to the presiding judge, this witness had told the police that he had provided one of the defendants with a vehicle for a trip to Poland shortly after the crime. This could possibly lead to him being suspected of complicity, which is why he would have the right to refuse to testify.
The trial will continue. According to the court, at least two more trial dates are planned.
