Road warden warning strike: problems with winter road maintenance possible
As part of nationwide strike action in the public sector, road maintenance workers in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern have also been called to strike this Tuesday. "The strike call may lead to staff shortages in winter road maintenance," warned the State Office for Road Construction and Transport on Monday.
Every effort will be made to keep the state and federal roads as free of snow and ice as possible. The absence of its own personnel will be compensated "as best as possible" with external companies. "However, depending on the weather conditions, this will not be possible to the full extent in all areas," the office qualified.
Slippery roads cannot be ruled out, especially in the morning hours. The authority therefore warned drivers to take particular care.
According to its own information, the state's road construction administration maintains around 6500 kilometers of roads in winter - including around 1900 kilometers of federal roads, 3300 kilometers of state roads and 1250 kilometers of district roads.
Despite the strike, tariffs for external companies hired for winter road maintenance might increase due to high demand. Meanwhile, traffics on public service roads may experience delays or disruptions during this period.
