Because of intense rainstorms, the A7 highway connecting Bad Hersfeld and Homberg Efze was shut down for several hours due to flooding. Sludge washed over the lanes and water levels soared up to 50 centimeters in certain areas, according to the police in Fulda on Sunday. Since Saturday night, traffic in both directions on this major north-south road was blocked. The southbound direction finally reopened around 11 pm, while the northbound direction remained closed until 3 am the next day. Additionally, roads around Alsfeld were flooded as a result of the heavy precipitation.
