- Road accident on the A23 - roadblock towards Hamburg
In the midst of the heaviest traffic of metal festival-goers leaving Wacken, the A23 towards Hamburg was fully closed for several hours. The cause: Several cars had collided at Lägerdorf (Circle Steinburg). "We had a pile of metal and in the end, no one was injured," a fire department spokesperson told the German Press Agency.
Initial findings suggest that eight cars had lightly collided. Two people were seen by the rescue service. However, no one had to be taken to the hospital. Earlier, the radio station NDR 1 Welle Nord had reported this.
Nevertheless, the accident had a significant impact on traffic towards Hamburg. The highway remained fully closed for more than two hours, affecting not only those from Lower Saxony who were now returning home after the holidays but also many metal fans who were heading south after the end of the open-air festival in Wacken. "The detour routes around are also congested. Drivers need a lot of patience at the moment," a police spokesperson said.
Adding to this, there was another restriction on the A7 at Hamburg-Bahrenfeld. In the morning, a caravan had burned, and the highway towards the south was only two lanes wide in the afternoon and evening.
Despite the disruption caused by the traffic congestion, some metal fans utilized the situation to their advantage, blasting their favorite [Music] from their vehicles to keep spirits high. The festival's energy seemed to have spilled onto the road, creating a unique soundtrack to the otherwise challenging situation.
Furthermore, many waited patiently in their cars, using this unexpected break to recharge their Music playlists, ready to continue their journey as soon as the traffic resumed.
