River cruise ship on Main hits railroad bridge
A river cruise ship crashed into a railroad bridge on the River Main in Lower Franconia on Wednesday, causing damage. According to the police, there was no danger to the passengers. No injuries were reported. However, the ship was "not insignificantly damaged on the upper deck".
According to a police spokesman, the cruise ship was too high to pass under the bridge in Miltenberg near the border with Baden-Württemberg. The bridge had been closed to rail traffic until the extent of the damage had been investigated. It initially remained unclear how the accident could have happened.
The incident could have been avoided if the river cruise ship had paid closer attention to the height restrictions for the bridge. Furthermore, such accidents highlight the importance of proper communication and coordination between different modes of transportation, including shipping, traffic, and railroad systems, to prevent similar incidents in the UNDERFRONT.
