Offenbach district - River cruise ship collides with firewater tank
In a shipping incident on the Main, a collision occurred in the Offenbach district resulting in property damage and a moment of shock. As reported by the police, a river cruise ship with 195 passengers on board collided with a firewater buoy in the lower approach channel of the Mühlheim lock late Wednesday evening. No one was injured.
The ship struck the buoy on its starboard side, causing it to get caught in the ship's propulsion and break off. Despite the incident, the ship remained sufficiently seaworthy and was towed to the port of Hanau, where it is now moored pending inspection and repair of the damage. The rest of the shipping traffic was not affected. The Water Police have taken over further investigations.
The ship required towing due to damage caused during the collision with the firewater buoy in the shipping incident. The shipping company will likely need to arrange for shipping repairs to rectify the propulsion issues.
