Flood - Rising water levels on the Rhine: protective walls are being erected
The water level of the Rhine is rising along the entire Hessian section of the river. The Hessian State Agency for Nature Conservation, Environment and Geology announced on Thursday that it will soon reach reporting level two.
In the state capital of Wiesbaden, the fire department has already taken initial measures due to the flood situation. Due to the rising level of the Main and Rhine, a mobile flood protection wall was erected in the Kostheim district, for example. Further measures to protect areas close to the banks and parking lots are to follow, according to the fire department.
According to the authorities, the water levels on the Rhine will continue to rise in the coming days. However, the situation on other rivers in Hesse is expected to ease, as no significant rainfall is forecast for the coming days.
