- Rising threat of forest fires in Thuringia as thunderstorms approach

Increased danger of forest fires in Thuringia** has been noted. In seven forest districts, the second-highest fire risk level of four has been implemented, as per reports from the state forest office. The main concern lies in East Thuringia and the area surrounding Mühlhausen. Certain barbecue or fire spots might be closed off. The wind continues to blow strongly today.

However, rain is on its way: The German Meteorological Service forecasts showers and thunderstorms for Thuringia throughout the night and into Sunday, with potential for heavy local downpours. Isolated rain showers are also predicted for eastern Thuringia on Sunday. The intensity of the rain is expected to decrease thereafter. Temperatures are set to drop with a maximum of 24 degrees.

The strong winds might help extinguish some fire sparks, but they also pose a risk of spreading the fires. The approaching rain will significantly reduce the Weather-related fire risk in Thuringia.
