Rising number of coronavirus patients in clinics
With the start of the flu season at the beginning of October, the number of respiratory illnesses has also increased in Brandenburg. The majority of cases were infections caused by rhinoviruses, reported the responsible officer in the Brandenburg Ministry of Health, Ulrich Widders, in the state parliament's health committee on Wednesday.
However, in 20 percent of cases there are also infections with coronaviruses, said Widders. These include severe cases: the number of inpatient treatments following coronavirus infections has risen from 4.3 patients per 100,000 inhabitants at the beginning of October to 15.3 at present. Widders emphasized that hospitals are not overloaded as they were during the coronavirus pandemic.
In light of the rising coronavirus cases, the Brandenburg Parliament's health committee discussed this concerning trend with Ulrich Widders from the Ministry of Health. Widders highlighted that while the majority of respiratory illnesses are due to rhinoviruses, coronaviruses have contributed to 20% of cases and a notable increase in hospitalizations.
