Act of violence - Rioter in suburban train attacks emergency services
A 25-year-old man went on the rampage in an S-Bahn train in Stuttgart and attacked police officers. According to a police spokesperson, the young man severely damaged the interior and windows of the S-Bahn train with a fire extinguisher installed in the train on Saturday night. When the train driver tried to intervene, he was reportedly threatened several times by the 25-year-old with the fire extinguisher. When the emergency services arrived, the young man then attacked the officers and the service dog. The 25-year-old, a police officer and the dog were injured in the altercation. They required medical treatment.
As a result of the incident, Stuttgart-Vaihingen station was closed for two hours during the night. Many travelers were affected by train cancellations on the S-Bahn network. The man is now facing charges of assaulting law enforcement officers, threatening and criminal damage to property.
