Extremism - Right-wing violence: Saxony-Anhalt in first place

In Saxony-Anhalt and Berlin, there were the most right-wing extremist motivated violent crimes last year. This is evident from the constitution protection report for Germany, which was published on Tuesday in Berlin for the year 2023. According to the report, 121 politically motivated violent crimes with a right-wing extremist background were counted in Saxony-Anhalt and Berlin each. While this number decreased slightly in the federal capital compared to the previous year, it increased by around 16% in Saxony-Anhalt.

Nationwide, the number of crimes with a right-wing extremist background rose to around 26,000, as stated further in the report of the Constitutional Protection. Among them were 1,148 violent crimes (previous year: 1,016).

In her foreword to the Constitutional Protection Report, Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) writes: "Right-wing extremism remains the greatest threat to our liberal democracy and the people who live in it. ... The number of violent right-wing extremists remains at a high level with 14,500 persons in 2023."

According to statistics, there were significantly fewer cases of left-wing extremist violence in Saxony-Anhalt than in the previous year. The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) counted only 6 left-wing extremist motivated violent crimes last year - in the previous year there were still 32. Only in Rhineland-Palatinate (1) and Saarland (1) were fewer left-wing extremist motivated violent crimes recorded. In North Rhine-Westphalia (274), Saxony (191), and Berlin (79), the most were recorded.
