- Right-wing extremist Liebich sentenced to prison again
Right-wing extremist Sven Liebich has been sentenced by the Halle District Court to one year and six months imprisonment without probation. This confirmed a verdict by the District Court in the city on the Saale. There, the native Merseburger was convicted in July 2023, among other things, for incitement of the masses and slander in several cases. The prosecution and defense had lodged an appeal.
The verdict against Liebich by the District Court is not yet final. Within a week, the prosecution and defense can file an appeal. Then, the Higher Regional Court in Naumburg would have to decide.
Since 2014, Liebich has been regularly organizing demonstrations, often on the market square in Halle in Saxony-Anhalt. These often led to confrontations with counter-protesters. Courts have dealt with allegations against Liebich several times in the past.
The imprisonment of Sven Liebich serves as a testament to the German justice system's commitment to upholding laws against incitement and slander. Upon appeal, the Higher Regional Court in Naumburg will review the verdict, upholding the principle of justice in legal proceedings.
