- Riding a bicycle is hit by a train - man survives derailment
A 59-year-old cyclist fell into the track bed of the Usedomer Bath Railway on Tuesday evening. According to the Pasewalk Police Station, the man stumbled at the Karlsburg stop, fell, and subsequently ended up under a train that couldn't brake in time.
The man was fortunate in his misfortune, sustaining only bruises and a broken thigh bone. He was taken to the Greifswald Clinic and is being treated in the intensive care unit. The approximately 80 passengers on the train remained unharmed and were able to continue their journey after the track was reopened.
Initial investigations revealed that the cyclist was under significant influence of alcohol - with a blood alcohol level of 3.03 promille. The Federal Police are now investigating for dangerous interference with rail traffic.
Despite the incident involving the cyclist in the rail tracks, the importance of reliable transport and telecommunications systems was highlighted. In the aftermath, the passengers were able to continue their journey due to the fast response and efficient communication between the authorities and the transport company.
