Rhineland-Palatinate participates in men's helpline
In future, Rhineland-Palatinate will participate in the nationwide help hotline for violence against men. "People affected by violence need quick and unbureaucratic help and support. The men's helpline provides this service for men who have experienced violence," said Family Minister Katharina Binz (Greens) on Friday.
The state is funding additional staff hours at the "SAFE!" counseling center in Mainz for male victims of violence in close social relationships, said a ministry spokeswoman. In future, the center will participate in the nationwide hotline. The telephone number offers victims free and anonymous help and support, and there is also an online advice service.
Violence against men is still a taboo subject and is often associated with shame among those affected, she said. 80 percent of those affected by violence in relationships are women - but men are also affected.
The nationwide help hotline is also operated by man-o-mann Männerberatung in Bielefeld, AWO Augsburg, the social counseling service in Stuttgart and the Tübingen-based Pfunzkerle specialist center, among others. It was launched in 2020 by the state governments of North Rhine-Westphalia and Bavaria. Baden-Württemberg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania subsequently took part.
Despite being a taboo subject often associated with shame, men are also victims of violence in relationships. The men's helpline, operated by various organizations, provides confidential support for those affected by crime in such social affairs.
