Power - Rhineland-Palatinate: Benefits of Exposed Electricity Cables
For Germany's power transmission routes, the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Energy favors over head lines and promotes practical resolutions. In reaction to a query from the German Press Agency, the Ministry in Mainz affirmed, "We urgently require expeditious expansion of the power infrastructure to achieve the energy transition." They added that overhead lines must be utilized when they expedite processes, and the technical factors in the specific undertaking clearly exhibit beneficial implications for the power line.
Technical factors such as the route or the planning phase were mentioned by the ministry as examples. Overhead lines are cheaper and this would lower the surcharge on network fees, resulting in more reasonable electricity costs. But, it is crucial to note that existing projects should be completed as initially conceived.
A monumental task is at hand: thousands of kilometers of new power lines must be installed across the country for the energy transition. The present preference is for underground cables which are significantly more expensive than overhead lines. Now, the conversation has shifted towards a potential change of course.
