Workforce sector - Rhein's Increased Citizen's Income Widens Skilled Workers Deficit
As more people in Hesse become reliant on social assistance, CDU Prime Minister Boris Rhein cautioned about the potential repercussions on the job market. "Research reveals that social assistance spurs the skilled labor deficit and the labor market crisis in our economy," he informed the German Press Agency in Wiesbaden. The appropriate response to the skilled labor shortage, he believes, is to encourage employment, not unemployment.
"Germany needs a healthier performance culture once again - with appreciation for work performance, life performance, entrepreneurial performance, and even integration performance," remarked the head of the government. "More and more subsidies are not making our country more equitable and fair, but are an attack on countless women and men who contribute daily and give their best."
There were 4.021 million qualified individuals eligible for social assistance in May, according to the Federal Employment Agency, an increase of 82,000 compared to the same month last year. Social assistance replaced the Hartz-IV system in January 2023. The goal of the reform was to better prepare people for permanent jobs and move them away from temporary positions.
