Rheinmetall inaugurates repair center in Ukraine.

Germany-based arms manufacturer Rheinmetall has been operating in Ukraine for a while. Now, they're partnering with the Ukrainian government to open a tank repair workshop in Kiev. Ukrainian experts will team up with German representatives.

Recently, Rheinmetall and Ukraine unveiled their first joint tank repair and production site in Kiev. The facility will focus on repairing and maintaining the Marder infantry fighting vehicle, as announced by the Ukrainian Ministry of Strategic Industries.

Ukrainian Minister Olexandr Kamyschin perceived this venture as a major step towards winning the ongoing war against Russia. "This joint production facility with Rheinmetall not only brings us closer to victory, but also signifies a crucial milestone in the arsenal development of the free world," he mentioned in a statement. An image released by the ministry highlighted Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger wearing a bulletproof vest.

In May of the previous year, Rheinmetall formed a joint venture with Ukrainian arms manufacturer Ukroboronprom for repairing and maintaining armored vehicles in Ukraine. The Kiev Defense Ministry explained that this first service center enables swift repair and maintenance of German equipment right in Ukraine, where they've been fighting for over two years. This will boost military efficiency.

In the joint facility, Ukrainian professionals will carry out the repair work, while German delegates will manage the technical aspects, as per the statement. "It's crucial for us to efficiently and consistently support Ukraine," Papperger noted in the statement. The delivery of replacement parts should happen promptly.

Back in the previous year, Rheinmetall indicated plans to expand their cooperation by jointly manufacturing selected Rheinmetall products in Ukraine. "The joint venture will function in the areas of service and maintenance services, assembly, production, and development of military vehicles, with operations initially limited to the Ukrainian territory," the company stated. Ukraine aspires to be a leading weapon manufacturer with the help of Western arms manufacturers.
