Defense industry - Rheinmetall develops tank version for Hungary
New order for Rheinmetall: The armaments group is developing a version of the Panther KF51 main battle tank for Hungary until it is ready for series production. The order is worth 288 million euros, as the company announced on Friday.
The tank is to be adapted to the individual requirements of the Hungarian government. The special Hungarian version, the Panther KF51 Evo, will be equipped with a 120-millimetre caliber gun. Rheinmetall had already presented a prototype at an arms fair in Paris in June 2022.
Group CEO Armin Papperger described the Panther as the "most modern main battle tank in the world". The Group intends to work together with the Hungarian state-owned holding company N7 on the project.
In August of this year, Rheinmetall inaugurated a plant for the production of the Lynx infantry fighting vehicle in the south-western Hungarian city of Zalaegerszeg. The company builds the armored personnel carriers and other tracked and wheeled vehicles for the Hungarian armed forces.
