Rhein: Don't put off electricity price plans for too long

Hesse's Minister President Boris Rhein has welcomed the German government's planned electricity price package to ease the burden on the economy. "However, the planned reduction in electricity tax and the expansion of electricity price compensation must take place immediately and must not be put on the back burner in a lengthy legislative process," the CDU politician demanded in Wiesbaden on Thursday. "We have already lost too much time."

The federal government must also get the stalled modernization process back on track with a major economic structure programme, explained Rhein. "Because the economic climate in the country is deteriorating noticeably." Germany does not have an economic problem, but a fundamental growth problem. The high corporate taxes and levies in international comparison, the high energy prices and the increasing shortage of labor and skilled workers are endangering prosperity.

With the so-called electricity price package, the German government has agreed on additional relief for companies over the next few years. Companies with particularly electricity-intensive production would benefit in particular, as would the manufacturing industry. The planned reduction in electricity tax is initially to be regulated by law for the years 2024 and 2025.

The planned reduction in electricity prices and the expansion of compensation for businesses could significantly improve the energy-intensive sectors within the industry. However, it's crucial that these measures are implemented promptly to mitigate the burden caused by high energy prices.
