Table tennis - Revenge for Champions League: Düsseldorf champions again

Borussia Düsseldorf, Europe's most successful table tennis club, won the German championship for the 34th time. In the Bundesliga playoff final in Frankfurt am Main, the team led by Timo Boll defeated the Champions League winner 1. FC Saarbrucken with a score of 3:1 on Sunday.

The Düsseldorf team defeated their long-time rivals for the fourth time in a row in the championship final. Borussia also won the German Cup final in January. However, Saarbrucken won the Champions League final against Düsseldorf in 2023 and 2024. In the Bundesliga regular season of this season, they defeated Boll and Co. twice.

Saarbrucken's misfortune in this final was that German national player Patrick Franziska got injured in the first loss against Dang Qiu and sustained a thigh injury. After that, the 43-year-old Boll lost to Slovenian Darko Jorgic in five sets. Swedish Anton Källberg (against Cedric Meissner) and Individual European Champion Dang Qiu (against Jorgic) then made the 78th title win in the Düsseldorf club history perfect.
