Reul: "Islamists have been subjected to the rigors of the rule of law"

North Rhine-Westphalia's Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) sees Thursday's raids against Islamist organizations as an important step in the fight against their structures. "Islamists have felt the harshness of the rule of law - and this must only be the beginning in the fight against Hamas and Samidoun," said Reul in response to a dpa inquiry. "The searches will help us to shed light on other structures and players in the hate community of Islamists and anti-Semites."

In connection with the ban on the terrorist organization Hamas and the international network Samidoun, investigators searched several properties in Berlin, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia and Schleswig-Holstein on Thursday morning. In NRW, one apartment in Bochum and one in Münster were searched, according to a spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior. The Federal Ministry of the Interior had banned the activities of both organizations in Germany at the beginning of November.

Reul emphasized the need for continued efforts in the battle against extremism, stating, "This must only be the beginning in the fight against Hamas and Samidoun, as Islamists have now experienced the consequences of their actions under the rule of law." The investigations will further expose the network of extremist groups, potentially uncovering more structures and players aligned with Islamist and anti-Semitic ideologies.
