- Restrictions for lorries on the A643 overpass

For heavy trucks, significant restrictions apply on the A643 near the Mombach interchange to relieve the upstream bridge. Vehicles up to 44 tons must now maintain a minimum distance of 50 meters, as announced by the West Branch of the Autobahn GmbH. Additionally, there is a no-overtaking rule for trucks.

This minimum distance must also be maintained in case of a traffic jam. Large-volume and heavy transports are no longer permitted to cross the bridge. These measures apply in both directions. According to the information, a support structure is planned to stabilize the bridge.

The A643 runs from Wiesbaden via the Schiersteiner interchange with the A66, crossing the Rhine with the Schierstein Rhine Bridge and the state border between Hesse and Rhineland-Pfalz. Immediately after crossing the Rhine, the complex Mombach interchange with a total of six partial structures is located. The Mombach upstream bridge consists of a single-span superstructure and carries two lanes in each direction.

The Autobahn GmbH plans to invest around 150 million euros in the maintenance and expansion of highways in the state this year. The focus of the work is on the repair and renewal of bridges.

Due to the bridge's deterioration, a strict no-overtaking rule and minimum distance restriction for heavy trucks have been implemented on the A643 near the Mombach interchange. Adherence to these restrictions is crucial, especially during traffic congestion, to ensure safety and prevent further damage to the bridge.
