Five days following the Danube's Danube river incident in Passau, where a barge went under, the wreckage was retrieved. Around the wee hours of Wednesday, the barge was drained out, as the police spokesperson announced. Presently, the floating wreckage is visible on the accident scene's surface, set for removal within the coming days. Previous recovery attempts had ended in failure.

The barge's Friday sinking had left its reason in question initially. As per the spokesperson, various faults were detected upon Wednesday's examination. A conclusive reason for the sinking still hasn't materialized.

The damage assessment, according to police sources, is in the high six-figures. The spokesperson confirmed there were no ecological damages: The spilled diesel from the barge was contained using oil barriers.

After the damage assessment, arrangements for the barge's shipping to a repair yard were made. The cost of shipping the damaged barge is expected to significantly add to the overall expense.
