The district of Ravensburg - Residents urged to steer clear of basements amidst flood threat.
Residents of the city of Weingarten, close to Ravensburg, should stay away from their basements and definitely not sleep in them. This advice came from the fire department in the evening. If they have the option to sleep with family or friends outside the areas at risk for rising water levels, they should do so.
People can attempt to move their valuable possessions from the basement or ground floor to the higher floors as a precautionary measure, said the emergency services on their website. Unfortunately, it's still unclear how fast the water levels will rise further, so extra caution is necessary. People who are bedridden or need care should call a hotline to register.
According to a reporter on the scene, the fire department warned residents in the affected streets in the evening. The city administration was initially unavailable.
The Ravensburg district announced on Friday evening that it's possible certain towns or municipalities may make evacuation decisions.
