The dead man in the explosion in an apartment building in Essen last Saturday was the 68-year-old resident of the first floor apartment. The man has been identified, the police announced on Friday. The man had previously been considered missing. The cause of the devastating explosion is still being investigated, according to the statement. On Saturday evening (December 9), a detonation occurred in the first floor apartment, which was heated with gas. The house and the adjacent street were devastated. Large parts of the house were ablaze. A resident jumped out of the window from the second floor. She was seriously injured with burns and was taken to hospital; her condition is now stable, it was reported on Friday. Five other people with minor injuries were discharged after outpatient treatment.
