Reserves score: VfB wins test against Nuremberg
Bundesliga soccer team VfB Stuttgart has won a test match against second division side 1. FC Nürnberg 2:0 (0:0). Veteran Genki Haraguchi scored the goals for the Swabians with a header (49th minute) and talented Lilian Egloff scored with a clearance (56th minute) in the small Robert-Schlienz-Stadion at the VfB club grounds on Thursday. The duo have barely featured in competitive matches under coach Sebastian Hoeneß.
Stuttgart, currently in a surprising third place in the Bundesliga, were dominant for long stretches. However, they were only efficient in the second half. After the goals, several young players were substituted. Several key players were rested or absent due to international travel with their respective national teams.
In the lead-up to their Bundesliga matches, VfB Stuttgart also tested their strategies against 1st FC Nuremberg, with the reserves securing a 2-0 victory. The win underscores the potential of the club's younger players, some of whom have rarely played in competitive matches, like Genki Haraguchi and Lilian Egloff, who scored during the test match.
