Trade unions - Resch to follow Zitzelsberger at IG Metall
The collective bargaining secretary Barbara Resch is to become the head of IG Metall in Baden-Württemberg. The district commission has proposed her together with union boss Christiane Benner as the successor to the outgoing Roman Zitzelsberger, the employee organization announced on Thursday in Frankfurt/Main. Benner said that the board would make a final decision on the appointment of Resch as district manager in January. Zitzelsberger said that he expressly supported a possible quicker change of leadership on February 1 next year.
Resch is currently the collective bargaining secretary in the Baden-Württemberg district management. After a good ten years, Zitzelsberger wants to vacate his post. He announced this a few days ago. He has been district manager in the south-west since 2013. At that time, he succeeded Jörg Hofmann, who had been elected to the IG Metall Executive Board. Since then, Zitzelsberger has negotiated the nationwide pilot agreement in the metal and electrical industry on several occasions. At the beginning of the year, he was also being discussed as the national head of the powerful industrial union. However, Hofmann's attempt to install the collective bargaining expert as co-chair alongside his then deputy Christiane Benner in a new type of dual leadership failed.
Zitzelsberger had announced in the spring that he did not want to move up to the IG Metall Executive Board, but instead wanted to remain district manager. He had cited health reasons for his decision. Benner was elected First Chairwoman in October.
