Republican Party: Trump's Vice-Presidential Candidate Announcement Expected as Early as Monday

Trump confirmed that he would announce his vice presidential candidate today, Fox News Moderator Bret Baier stated on Monday. Potential candidates for the position next to the designated presidential candidate Trump include Senators J.D. Vance from Ohio and Marco Rubio from Florida, as well as North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum.

Approximately 50,000 visitors are expected for the four-day event in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Trump is expected to give a speech on acceptance of his candidacy on Thursday.

Trump told the New York Post he had originally prepared an "extremely harsh speech" about the "terrible government" of President Joe Biden. He discarded this text but is unsure if it's possible to unite the country. Americans in the USA are "very divided."

Trump survived an assassination attempt by a shooter at a campaign rally in the state of Pennsylvania on Saturday (local time). The former president was shot and slightly injured in the ear. In addition to the alleged shooter, a bystander was killed, and two other men in the audience were severely wounded.

Biden called for calm in political confrontations during a television address on Sunday evening (local time). "We all have a responsibility to do this," Biden said in a speech in the Oval Office of the White House. The political debate in the USA is "very heated," it's necessary to "lower the temperature," Biden said. Politics should never be "literally a battlefield."

It was Biden's third speech in the Oval Office since taking office. In the speech, he also referred to the storming of the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. Supporters of Trump reacted to his electoral loss in the presidential election with this. "We cannot allow this violence to be normalized," Biden said. "Our convictions should never turn to violence."

The 81-year-old incumbent is facing significant doubts about his mental and physical fitness following his disastrous TV debate performance against Trump last month.

Biden and Trump will face off against each other in the presidential election on November 5. Some Republicans have accused the Democrats of having contributed to the shooting on Trump with extreme rhetoric.

Biden had to retreat in the campaign. The lagging president had recently tried to deflect criticism of his own weaknesses with sharp criticism of Trump.

Meanwhile, Trump scored a significant legal victory: Federal Judge Aileen Cannon, whom Trump himself appointed, halted the proceedings against the former president in his document affair. She based her decision on the fact that the US Department of Justice had violated the Constitution by appointing a special prosecutor for the investigation into the case - and granted an application from Trump's lawyers.

Trump declared on Truth Social that this was "just the first step." The "termination of all witch hunts" must now "happen quickly," he demanded.

Meanwhile, the responsible coordinator of the US Secret Service, Audrey Gibson-Cicchino, assured that her agency is "fully and completely prepared" to ensure security at the Republican Party convention. After the attempted assassination attempt on Trump, the agency responsible for protecting current and former US presidents is under pressure.

Among other things, she had to allow herself questions about why the protector was able to climb up to a roof about 150 meters away from Trump's speaker podium und und shoot from there unhindered. The director of the Secret Service, Kimberly Cheatle, agreed to an independent investigation of the security perimeter.

According to the US Federal Police FBI, the investigators have not yet found an "ideology" behind the act. The weapon used, according to the FBI, was a legally purchased semi-automatic rifle of the AR-556 type, which was presumably bought by the father of Thomas Matthew Crooks. In the suspect's car, the investigators also found explosive material.
