German league - Report: Gulacsi potential for contract extension at RB Leipzig

Apparently, RB Leipzig's Bundesliga soccer team is planning to renew goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi's contract before it expires in 2025, as noted in a media report by "Bild." This news was confirmed by the club's sports director Rouven Schröder and Gulacsi's representatives.

The two men decided to finalize the extension before the current contract ends. For the upcoming season, Gulacsi and the new Belgian player, Maarten Vandevoort, will be competing for the title of the team's regular goalkeeper. It's possible that Janis Blaswich may leave the team.

Gulacsi, who is 34, got his usual position back in February after being sidelined for several weeks by a cruciate ligament injury in October 2022. When he was out of the game, Blaswich was promoted and even received an invitation to join the national team in the fall. However, Blaswich's performance has been declining lately, and Gulacsi has been reinstated in his position as the team's goalkeeper. Since Gulacsi's return, RB Leipzig has not lost any Bundesliga games.

Gulacsi has expressed his desire to avoid entering the final year of his deal. In an interview with "Bild," he said, "We've decided that there will be a definite resolution in the summer about my future. At my age, it's important to have some financial and career security for both me and my family." Gulacsi is also hoping to be the team's goalkeeper during the 2026 World Cup in the USA.
