Bundesliga's Second Tier - Report: Fiél takes over as manager at Hertha BSC

Hertha BSC is about to introduce Christian Fiel as their new coach, as revealed in a media report. This 44-year-old previously worked for rival Bundesliga 2 team, 1. FC Nuremberg, and is expected to sign a contract lasting till 2026, according to Sky News. The deal is planned to be finalized soon. Since Fiel's contract in Nuremberg didn't end till 2025, Hertha will need to cover a release fee.

Similar to Pal Dardai, who is exceptionally familiar with Hertha's academy, Fiel must adopt the Berlin strategy of budget management while putting a strong emphasis on nurturing young talents. Fiel has a reputation for identifying upcoming stars. Players like Can Uzun showed immense growth under his guidance in Nuremberg.

The coach, who once played for Union Berlin during his professional career, is also recognized for his offensive gameplay. His primary focus should be on solidifying Hertha's unstable defense.

Hertha made public their intention not to renew Dardai's head coach contract before the final season game against Osnabrück. Hertha ended their first season in the second league after their relegation in 2023 in a rather underwhelming ninth place. Hertha can't afford another unstable season with a mid-table ranking, and they want to steer clear of it.
