Report: European Championship preparation also possible in Herzogenaurach
Rudi Völler has already confirmed the European Championship quarters in Herzogenaurach. However, the DFB sports director did not want to publicly name the location of the training camp ahead of the national team's home tournament. According to a report in the "Bild" newspaper on Wednesday, national coach Julian Nagelsmann may also prepare his team at the so-called home ground of equipment supplier Adidas. The reason given is economic constraints at the DFB.
Most recently, there were reports from DFB circles of three remaining options for the training period at the end of May, beginning of June. According to "Bild", the rumored hotel in eastern Germany is a golf hotel in Weimar. Another option is Donaueschingen - currently an outsider.
A decision is likely to be made public around the time of the draw for the European Championship groups in Hamburg on December 2 at the latest. After that, the further schedule for the tournament preparation with two test match opponents each in March and in the immediate run-up to the tournament will be determined.
According to UEFA regulations, the DFB team must move into their European Championship quarters in Franconia no later than five days before the first tournament match - i.e. on June 9. The opening match with Germany as hosts will take place on June 14 in Munich. Nagelsmann and his team will then continue in Stuttgart on June 19 and Frankfurt on June 23.
In an interview with Bayerischer Rundfunk, Völler had emphasized the proximity of the quarters to the European Championship venues as an advantage. Despite two disappointing summers in Herzogenaurach so far at the 2021 European Championship and the 2022 Nations League matches, the 63-year-old believes the camp is ideal. "We were already enthusiastic back then, so it won't fail," Völler assured.
The German national soccer team, led by coach Julian Nagelsmann, might train for the EURO quarters at Herzogenaurach, which is known as Adidas' "home ground." This potential decision is due to economic constraints at the DFB. Following UEFA regulations, the team must move into their EURO quarters in Franconia no later than five days before their first match, scheduled for June 14 in Munich.
