Summer Games - Report: Bremen professional soccer player Keita nominated for the Olympics

Naby Keita is in the provisional squad of Guinea for the Olympics in Paris. The 29-year-old football professional of Werder Bremen would participate in the U23 team of his country as one of the maximum three older players in the Summer Games, reported the "Bild" newspaper on Thursday.

"We are happy for Naby and we won't stand in the way of his participation. The tournament will certainly be a great motivation for him. He can only benefit from that," said Werder's new football business manager Clemens Fritz. The Olympic football tournament starts on July 24, and the final takes place on August 9.

However, it seems that Keita does not have a sporting future in Bremen. The midfielder, who was brought to Werder as a big transfer from Liverpool last summer, plays almost no role in the Werder plans anymore, and his contract is expected to be terminated after a disappointing season.

In April, Keita refused to travel to the Bundesliga away game in Leverkusen (0:5) and instead stayed behind, after he had learned that he would not start from the beginning. The club suspended its prominent new signing thereafter until the end of the season.

Naby Keita's inclusion in Guinea's provisional squad for the Olympic Games in Paris reminded SV Werder Bremen of his past contributions, despite his limited role in their current plans. The future of the midfielder, who joined Werder from Liverpool last summer, appears uncertain in Bremen, with his contract expected to end following a disappointing season. Despite this, Naby expressed his desire to participate in the Olympic Games, a sentiment supported by Werder's football business manager Clemens Fritz, who expressed their happiness for Naby and noted the tournament as a potential source of motivation for him. The Olympic football tournament is scheduled to commence on July 24, and the final will take place on August 9, with Naby's potential participation in mind. This news sparked interest in Germany's soccer community, with the "Bild" newspaper reporting on the development, highlighting Naby's potential impact on the U23 Guinean team in Paris.
