- Repeat offenders Found Guilty of Sexual Assaults
Recently, the final judgment in a case against a repeat offender, who had been convicted of multiple sexual assaults, was upheld by the Regional Court of Kassel. On June 20, the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) in Karlsruhe released a statement, indicating that a review of the case uncovered no legal flaws that could potentially benefit the accused.
The offender was given a sentence of 13 years in prison and ordered to serve time in a secure facility starting on November 20, based on charges of multiple rape incidents, some of which included physical harm, robbery, and an attempted armed robbery. Two instances saw the crimes incomplete.
Additionally, the offender was found guilty of aggravated sexual assault, two counts of robbery (one involving physical harm), and one instance of armed extortion. The court acknowledged that the defendant targeted women ranging from 23 to 79 years old, as well as a young male, within Kassel city and its main cemetery, between February 17 and August 4, 2022.
The victims were compelled to perform sexual acts, suffering severe injuries in one case. Money and other valuable items were also stolen from them, while other times, the defendant demanded money. In one situation, an 84-year-old woman was viciously shoved to the ground on the main cemetery and had her handbag taken from her.
The repeat offender's initial conviction was upheld in the first instance by The Court of First Instance in Kassel. Subsequently, the accused appealed the ruling to the Regional Court of Kassel, but their appeal was also denied, leading to the final judgment.
