- Renowned photographer Werner Bokelberg passes away at 86 years old.
Werner Bokelberg, the celebrated shutterbug known for capturing iconic figures like Pablo Picasso, Uschi Obermaier, and Romy Schneider, breathed his last in Hamburg at 86. The news of his demise, which came a day before his 87th birthday, was shared by a family member, as reported by "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung".
Born in Bremen back in 1937, Bokelberg spent decades behind the lens, initially working for "Stern" magazine from 1962 to 1972. Post this, he delved into advertising photography, lending his expertise to numerous significant advertising campaigns. His creative journey took him to Hamburg, Paris, and New York.
Some of his most iconic shots include Picasso donning a straw hat, Obermaier radiating her free spirit in a 1968 commune image with bare torso and wild hair, and the sophisticated Schneider in her Parisian abode, which he artfully staged for a report.
During his creative journey, Bokelberg resided in various cities such as Hamburg in the 1960s. His work for "Stern" magazine spanned two decades, starting in 1962.
