Major fire - Renewed investigation into major fire in Bothenheilingen
Two years after the serious fire in Bothenheilingen (Unstrut-Hainich-District), investigators are shedding light on the circumstances of the fire once again. The prosecutor's office and criminal police are investigating what could have caused the fire in the courtyard and if there is someone who can be charged with it, as a spokesperson for the Prosecutor's Office Mühlhausen announced.
The reason for this was reportedly tips that had been received by the police. Initially, there was no suspect, the investigation focused on Unknown. An investigation is being carried out for negligent arson.
A historic four-sided courtyard with a carpentry, apartments, and a dance hall was reduced to its foundation by the fire in July 2022 in the town center of Bothenheilingen. Fifteen people lost their homes. The fire caused serious damages to further buildings, which were estimated to be in the millions. Before the fire, the MDR had reported on the investigations.
