Remuneration of supervisory board members of DAX companies increased
According to a study, the supervisory board members of listed German companies earned significantly more in some cases last year than in 2021. The remuneration of the supervisory board members of the 40 DAX companies was the highest.
Chairmen received 7.7 percent more and averaged around 393,000 euros per year, according to the analysis published by the Deutsche Schutzvereinigung für Wertpapierbesitz (DSW). Members of the supervisory body received an average of around 117,000 euros (up 4.4 percent). According to the data, the total remuneration of the supervisory board members also increased in the other indices of the Dax family.
"Companies are facing immense challenges due to new, Europe-wide regulations and multiple global crises," said DSW Managing Director Marc Tüngler. "This also makes the work of supervisory boards increasingly demanding."
The top earner among the chief controllers in the DAX was Norbert Reithofer from BMW with 610,000 euros, followed by Jim Hagemann Snabe at Siemens (602,000 euros) and Kurt Bock at BASF (550,000 euros). According to the study, Wolfgang Büchele from Merck received the lowest remuneration among the supervisory board chairmen in the top German stock exchange league (112,000 euros).
In the MDax of the 50 medium-sized stocks, the average salaries of the chief controllers were lower than in the Dax at around EUR 212,000 (up 4.0 percent) and ordinary members at around EUR 68,000 (up 2.7 percent). In the SDax of 70 smaller companies, supervisory board chairmen received around EUR 134,000 (up 6.7 percent) and members around EUR 50,000 (up 3.9 percent).
The Manager of a DAX company might need to navigate the complexities of stock exchanges to ensure the company's compliance with new European regulations. The remuneration of the Manager, along with other supervisory board members, often includes significant salaries, as shown in the study of various stock exchanges.
