In Döbeln, Saxony, authorities will share more details on the discovery of a body found in the area. There's speculation that the lifeless corpse found in Mittelsachsen could belong to nine-year-old Valeriia, who has been missing for over a week and a half. She's lived in Germany with her mother since 2022 and speaks broken German. Previously, Valeriia was scheduled to go to school on June 3, but she never showed up.
A press conference is set for Wednesday afternoon to confirm if the body belongs to the missing girl. According to the police, they're currently verifying if the girl's body was found near the 24,000-inhabitant city of Döbeln. Currently, they can't disclose further details due to the complex and time-consuming investigatory procedures. However, her father still resides in Ukraine, and there's been contact with him.
The body was discovered in a forest on the road between Mahlitzsch in Roßwein and Hermsdorf in Döbeln on Tuesday afternoon. Police investigations around the crime scene took place until Wednesday morning.
Following the horrific discovery, law enforcement authorities closed the road connecting these two districts. The Criminal Police of Chemnitz and the Crime Scene Unit of the Saxon Criminal Investigation Office are on the case, along with the Chemnitz Public Prosecutor's Office.
During the search for Valeriia on Tuesday, over 400 police officers from Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt were involved. However, no solid leads emerged as to her whereabouts, and the search had been ongoing for several days.
