"Reichsbürger" raid: search also in Cuxhaven

In the course of the nationwide raid against suspected "Reich citizens", a woman in Cuxhaven has also been searched. This was announced by the Ministry of the Interior in Hanover on Thursday. No arrests were made. The ministry did not provide further details on the allegations against the woman.

A total of around 280 officers searched 20 homes in eight federal states on Thursday morning. The 20 suspects, aged between 25 and 74, are accused of forming a criminal organization, as Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann and Bavaria's Justice Minister Georg Eisenreich (both CSU) announced.

The Munich Public Prosecutor General's Office, which was in charge of the case, stated that the group had wanted to block the communication channels of the authorities by making mass contact with them and thus influence their decisions. The aim was to destabilize the Federal Republic of Germany and its institutions and to prevent or at least make it more difficult for the state to act lawfully.

So-called "Reich citizens" are people who do not recognize the Federal Republic of Germany and its democratic structures. In 2022, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution estimated that around 23,000 people across Germany belong to the "Reichsbürger" and "Selbstverwalter" scene.

The woman in Cuxhaven, being searched during the "Reichsburger" raid, is suspected of associated extremism involving crime. The criminal organization, accused of forming among the searched individuals, aimed to destabilize Germany's institutions by influencing authorities' decisions through mass contact.
