Playing with a ball in the sport of handball. - Reichmann says goodbye to the Rhein-Neckar Lions
Tobias Reichmann, the ex-European handball champion, is leaving the Rhein-Neckar Löwen team at the end of this season. The club publicly announced this news on Tuesday. "We wished to provide Tobias with a deal," said Kettemann, the Löwen managing director. "But given the significance of budgetary constraints, it's unfortunately not feasible to retain him for a prolonged period of time at present."
The player, recently turning 36, lamented about leaving the Löwen and, as per the announcement, desired to remain with the team. He had joined them in January on a contract until the end of the season. Reichmann's role was to replace the recovering national player and captain, Patrick Groetzki.
Kettemann lauded Reichmann's performance, describing him as a reliable asset and exceeding expectations. Last season, the left-hander, who played for TV Emsdetten in the third division, had encountered his chances in Löwen.
His impact in the Löwen squad was significant as he scored five goals, aiding them in their third position finish at the European League final tournament facing the Romanian champion, Dinamo Bukarest. The 2016 and 2017 German champion Löwen currently ranks 11th in the Bundesliga, two matches prior to its conclusion.
