Following news that Alexander Nübel was not included in the final European Championship (EM) squad, 22-year-old Jan Reichert, goalkeeper for Nuremberg's second division team, will be training alongside the German national football team from the upcoming Monday. Reichert will assist Manuel Neuer, Marc-André ter Stegen, and Oliver Baumann during their practice sessions at Herzogenaurach, but he is not registered to participate in the tournament.

In a recent conversation, Reichert shared his initial disbelief and excitement about this unique opportunity. Having made his league debut for the team just last season and a potential candidate for the starting position this year, he's been given an extraordinary honor: "I was with my brother when I received the call and was initially quite confused. I couldn't believe it at first, but I'm incredibly excited to have this chance. It's a massive honor for me, and I'm overjoyed and proud to be involved."

National coach Julian Nagelsmann affirmed on Friday, prior to the last test match against Greece (2:1), that Nübel would not be on the final team and planned to add a goalkeeper to the camp. Living in close proximity to the DFB partner Adidas's headquarters in Herzogenaurach, overnight stays with the players are not necessary for Reichert.

As new sports director at Nuremberg, Joti Chatzialexiou, who previously worked for the German Football Association for many years, facilitated the arrangement. "The close distance between Nuremberg and Herzogenaurach and my history with the DFB resulted in this connection. We're delighted to collaborate with the national team," remarked Chatzialexiou. The DFB's goalkeeper coach, Andreas Kronenberg, expressed a similar sentiment: "We're grateful for Sports Director Joti Chatzialexiou and 1. FC Nuremberg's excellent cooperation."

With plenty of free time over the weekend thanks to the Friday night win against Mönchengladbach, the team will resume training on Monday to prepare for the EM opener on June 14th, which will be held in Munich against Scotland.
