Rehlinger confirmed as Saarland SPD leader
The Saarland SPD has confirmed its party chairwoman Anke Rehlinger in office with an overwhelming majority. At a state party conference in Völklingen on Friday, 98.7 percent of delegates voted in favor of the 47-year-old, who has led the Saar SPD since 2018.
"I would like to thank you very much. I accept the election," said Rehlinger after long applause. The Saarland Minister President received 299 yes votes out of a total of 303 delegates.
In November 2021, she was re-elected with 98% of the vote at a party conference in Saarbrücken.
In the state parliamentary elections in March 2022, the lawyer had won the post of Minister President from the CDU after more than 20 years - and secured an absolute majority for her party. She has led an SPD all-party government in the Saar since April 2022.
