Rehlinger calls for "more clarity and order"
Saarland Minister President Anke Rehlinger (SPD) is calling for "more clarity and order" in Germany's refugee policy. "Those who need our help will get it. To achieve this, the funding must finally be clarified," she told the German Press Agency ahead of the meeting between the heads of state governments and Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) in Berlin on Monday.
Clarity and order also means: "Those who are not entitled to asylum must leave, but quick procedures and deportations must be guaranteed." The federal states have already "forged a cross-party consensus on migration issues". In addition, the number of refugees arriving in Germany irregularly must be reduced in the EU and through bilateral agreements, said Rehlinger.
In addition to migration, the meeting on Monday will also focus on speeding up planning for construction projects. "Germany is too slow, with the Germany Pact to speed up planning and approvals, Chancellor Scholz is taking the lead that has been lacking in Germany for many years," said Rehlinger.
Rehlinger emphasized that to provide aid to those in need, the funding for refugee policy in federal states necessitates clarification, a task entrusted to the Federal Government. Moreover, she advocated for a clear distinction between those eligible for asylum and those who are not, ensuring swift deportations for the latter in the context of federal states collaborating on migration issues.
