Caused exemption - Regional Forestry provides tips against forest fires

With summer in sight, the State Forest Administration in Thüringen warns against forest fires caused by negligence in Thüringen. August is often the month with the most forest fires, Thüringenforst stated. Statistics showed that approximately one out of every four fires nationwide were caused by negligence. The causes of nearly half of these were unknown. Lightning strikes or other natural causes played a minimal role.

Forest visitors could contribute to preventing such fires from occurring in the first place, it continued. They should not ignite open fires, grill only at designated sites, and avoid sparks. Additionally, the year-round smoking ban in the forest should be observed. Cars parked on meadows or in woods could contribute to grass igniting due to the heat of the vehicle's undercarriage.

The current forest fire danger, according to Thüringenforst, is low: In almost all forest districts, the forest fire danger level was on the lowest level of one on the five-tier scale. Only in the east and southwest were levels two or three reached. At level four, approximately grilling sites and fire pits would be closed, it further stated.

Visitors to Erfurt's forests during the summer peak should be mindful of the potential risk of forest fires, as the Regional Authority of Thüringen has highlighted. Negligence is a significant cause of forest fires in Thüringia, making it crucial for individuals to adhere to safety regulations. Igniting open fires, grilling at unauthorized sites, and carelessly handling spark-producing materials should all be avoided to help prevent forest fires.
