Church - Regional church: Theologian Krause to succeed Kurschus

The theologian Michael Krause is proposed to be the successor of Annette Kurschus, who stepped down last year, as President of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia. According to a statement from last Friday, the Permanent Nomination Committee of the Church Synod suggested the 56-year-old as a candidate for the office. The Westphalian pastor currently serves as the manager of the Foundation Department Schools of the v. Bodelschwinghschen Stiftungen Bethel.

Before his time at Bethel, Krause was Superintendent of the Herford Church Circle from 2009 to 2020 and before that, he was a parish pastor in Südlengern for nine years.

Annette Kurschus, who previously held the position as President of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia, hails from Bielefeld, which is located in North Rhine-Westphalia. Michael Krause, the proposed successor, was also part of the Regional Church in North Rhine-Westphalia before serving as Superintendent of the Herford Church Circle in Bielefeld.
