Following their surprising victory against Bundesliga team Bochum, SSV Jahn Regensburg is now looking forward to another exciting moment in the DFB Cup. The Bavarians rightfully beat VFL 1-0 (0-0) and now have the chance to face a high-profile opponent in the second round draw. "That would be sweet," immediately commented captain Andreas Geipl following their victory on Sunday afternoon.

As Geipl pondered over their win, the air in the Jahn locker room was filled with a loud mix of Ballermann tunes and traditional Bavarian melodies. "I'm thrilled for the team and everyone around us," said Geipl.

Geipl didn't have a preferred opponent for the second round. "It's all going to depend on the draw. We'll play it by ear." Only one of the 13 Bundesliga teams lost their first-round matches over the weekend, so there are several notable contenders for the second division team.

"DFB Cup matches are always something we look forward to," said coach Joe Enochs, who's just happy to still be playing a cup game at the Jahn Stadium. Last year, they lost 2-1 to 1. FC Magdeburg.

Enochs acknowledged his team had a minor edge: unlike Bochum, they had already begun their league season. "We had match practice," said the American-born coach. This allowed his team to step up their performance in the second half and secure the win with Florian Ballas' leading goal in the 70th minute. "And if we had executed our counters better, we could have clinched the win earlier."

Enochs is hopeful that this win will give his team a much-needed boost before their away match in the second division against Hertha BSC (Saturday, 1:00 PM/Sky). "Holding our own against such a strong team builds our confidence. But we'll maintain our composure and keep focused."

Enochs also reminded his team about Hertha's impressive win in the DFB Cup: 5-1 against Hansa Rostock. "That's quite an achievement. We need to bring that level of performance to have any hope of winning," said Enochs.

Geipl expressed his excitement about potential high-profile opponents in the DFB Cup, mentioning that any team could be their opponent due to the draw in The Upper Palatinate's next round. After their victory, Coach Enochs highlighted their upcoming away match in the second division against Hertha BSC, mentioning that Hertha also had an impressive win in The Upper Palatinate during the DFB Cup.
