Regatta Transat Jacques Vabre: Boris Herrmann also in the race
After nine days of waiting, the 40 Imoca yachts were the last of the four sailing classes to start the 16th edition of the Transat Jacques Vabre regatta on Tuesday morning. Among the participating boats is the "Malizia - Seaexplorer" with Boris Herrmann and Will Harris. Off Le Havre, the fleet started the race across the Atlantic to Martinique in choppy seas and strong winds. The 18-metre-long racing boats are expected to reach the finish line off Fort-de-France around November 20.
Herrmann is expecting a challenging race: "It won't be easy, because we have to pass one or two strong weather fronts with winds gusting up to 50 knots. However, the new start and the new route now open up many more strategic opportunities," said the Hamburg native. Herrmann, the Munich-born "Macsf" skipper Isabelle Joschke and Andreas Baden from Kiel on the French "Nexans - Art & Fenêtres" are three Germans in the popular Imoca class.
Lennart Burke and Melwin Fink on their "Sign for Com" have now fought their way up from 34th to 17th place in the Class 40 duos that started the race from Lorient on Monday. After the first night at sea on Tuesday morning, the young professionals from Hamburg were among the fastest boats in their fleet and are expected to reach their Caribbean destination on November 22nd.
Boris Herrmann and his crew are currently sailing through the challenging 16th Transat Jacques Vabre, as they navigate their Imoca yacht "Malizia - Seaexplorer" across the Atlantic. Despite the anticipated strong weather fronts with winds reaching up to 50 knots, Herrmann is optimistic about the new strategic opportunities presented by the race's new start and route.
