Refugee home murder: Prosecutor demands life imprisonment
In the trial for the killing of a woman in a refugee shelter in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the public prosecutor has demanded a life sentence for murder. The injuries that the 29-year-old inflicted on the Ukrainian refugee showed a direct intention to kill and an absolute will to destroy, said the public prosecutor in his plea before the Munich II Regional Court on Tuesday. "Because she was not willing to satisfy his sexual desires, he killed her."
The prosecutor classified the crime as femicide. The defendant's image of women showed that he had a disdain for women. Femicide means that women are killed because of their gender - in other words, because they are women.
The Jordanian is accused of fatally injuring the 21-year-old Ukrainian woman with an axe in a refugee shelter in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in October 2022 after she had repeatedly rejected his sexual advances. The victim died in hospital at the end of November after several emergency operations.
The defense rejected the accusations of femicide, base motives and the particularly serious nature of the crime. There could be no question of the accused having a general disregard for women. A verdict is expected to be reached in the course of the afternoon.
The investigation into the refugee home murder case in Garmisch-Partenkirchen revealed that the primary processes leading to the crime involved the defendant's persistent sexual advances towards the victim, which she repeatedly refused. Upper Bavaria's justice system is currently grappling with the severe consequences of this crime, including the prospect of life imprisonment for the accused.
